Ho un problema: ho appena installato Mandrake Linux 9.1, ma non riesco ad installare il modem (Ericsson B-Quick HM120dp - USB). Ho installato il pacchetto software di eciadsl (htt*://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download.php?lang=en), i driver per i modem USB adsl. Lo ho installato dal centro di controllo, ma ora non so più cosa devo fare per installare sto benedetto modem. Inoltre il modem è spento perchè prede la corrente dalla porta USB, ma se non è installato, l'energia non gli arriva. Qualche idea?

In genere i modem USB non vanno d'accordo con Linux.
Sei sicuro che i driver che hai trovato vadano bene per il tuo modello di modem? Hai provato a dare un'occhiata alla sezione Documentazione del sito dove hai trovato i driver?

Ho letto la documentazione (avrei dovuto farlo prima!) ed ora sono riuscito a configurare il modem. Però c'è ancora un problema: devo decomprimere un file nella cartella /etc/eciadsl, ma mi dice che non ho le autorizzazioni necessarie (in pratica devo accedere a Linux come root). Però, quando accendo il PC, al momento del login di Linux (utilizzo Mandrake Linux 9.1), c'è solo un utente (creato da me) ma è un utente normale. Come faccio ad accedere come root? (naturalmente la password la so!)

Sì, lo so, la Mandrake ha preso il vizio di Winzozz, quello di cosiderare gli utenti... utonti (autorisate HA HA HA HAaaa....), quindi nasconde l'utente root nel menu di login.
Per risolvere (in KDE):
Menu>Configurazione>KDE>Sistema>Gestione degli accessi, togli il segno di spunta dalla casellina Nascondi utente (o simile) in una delle ultime schede.
In ogni caso è meglio se diventi root solo per il tempo necessario. Sempre in KDE: Menu>Applicazioni>Utilità file>File manager - modalità superutente, apri il file con Ark e lo decomprimi dove vuoi.
Sennò apri una console e diventi root col comando su.

Grazie Gimli, sono riuscito a far visualizzare root nel menù di login. Ora però ho un altro problema: quando eseguo "startmodem" da console, ecco ciò che viene fuori (per poter mettere qui il testo ho eseguito "startmodem | tee log.txt" così da creare un file di log, e poi così via...):

Pare che il problema stia qui: ad occhio e croce direi che il software di configurazione non riesce a comunicare col modem. Può essere che il dev cui punta il software sia sbagliato? La documentazione non dice niente?
Prova anche a cercare il testo esatto (o quasi) dell'errore con Google e Google gruppi: quasi certamente qualcuno ha avuto lo stesso intoppo e se sei fortunato trovi anche la soluzione, o almeno qualche suggerimento.

Ho fatto così: "eciconf.sh", con questo comando sono entrato nella consigurazione di eciadsl, da lì ho cambiato il "ppp mode" con un altro che stava lì ed ho attivato l'opzione "DHCP" (anche se non so bene cos'è!). Sono uscito ed ho ridigitato "startmodem", ecco ciò che ne esce:

Potrebbe essere un bug. Succede tutte le volte che provi?
Cerca nella documentazione se il tuo modello è supportato, se sì prova a vedere se c'è una mailing list o qualcosa dove riportare i bug e posta per sentire cosa ti dicono (se ci sono degli archivi guarda lì prima di postare, magari è un bug conosciuto).
Boh, se proprio non ne vuole sapere di andare chiedi alla telecom di cambiartelo con uno ethernet, se rompono minaccia di rivolgerti a qualche associazione di consumatori.
Già provato a cercare tra i vecchi post di it[.com]p.os.linux.iniziare cn google gruppi? C'è un sacco di traffico che riguarda modem ADSL e molti riescono a risolvere (in bene o in male).
Purtroppo posso darti solo consigli generici, non ho ADSL.

Sì, succede tutte le volte. Il mio modello è supportato (nell'installazione chiede quali driver installare, ed io ho selezionato quelli del mio modem). Ora guardo su it[.com]p.os.linux.iniziare di google gruppi (come mi hai detto tu).
PS. Mi è venuta in mente una cosa: si ferma al Block 265. Potrebbe essere un problema di quel blocco? (sempre che qualcuno sappia cosa sia questo blocco, io non lo so!)

Orso ank'io ho il tuo stesso problema ma con mandrake 10.0!non riesco a far funzionare il tuo stesso modem ERICSSON HM120dp !Prima ho usato i driver eciadsl ed ora stò usando l'Usermode-0.5-italia-FINALE.tar.gz !per favore se risolvi spiegami come hai fatto.grazieee
da me non si accende proprio il modem!
P.S. prima d installare i nuovi driver hai disinstallato i vekki vero?!make uninstall?!e cancellato i file su /usr/local/bin ?io l'ho fatto!!ma non si accende il modem!

Nel DNS1 c’è quest’IP : 212.216.112.112
Nel DNS2 quest’altro : 212.216.172.62
E’ CORRETTO??
