ciao a tutti...
avrei bisogno di un piccolo aiuto:
Sto cercando di iniziare ad usare linux, e ho installatro sulla mia macchina Ubuntu. Funziona perfettamente, solo che per una piccola cosa, non riesco a trovare i driver per la mia scheda video. Io ho una scheda video integrata sulla scheda madre (Asus A8V-VM, cn scheda video VIA DeltaChrome K8M890). Ho cercato sul sito dell'Asus, e ci siono i driver per la scheda audio, per la Lan, per il controllo raid, ma nn per la scheda video..
qualcuno mi sa aiutare o dare indicazioni di dove posso trrovare i driver??

Ho trovato questo (in tedesco), qui il suo xorg.conf (sarebbe il file di configurazione video), sembra che abbiate la stessa scheda, confornta il tuo con il suo, il file è in:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
Altra cosa, se non hai una tablet wacom devi commentare queste linee:

Sulla mia titìrava fuori errori strani, non ho trovato altre info sulla tua scheda video, quindi non so quanto possa essere supportata dai driver di Ubuntu.
Nel prossimo post descrivi con più esattezza che difetti fa, ed inoltre da terminale dai questi comandi:
lspci
glxinfo
e ne copi il risultato sul post, cercheremo più a fondo.

Innanzitutto ti ringrazio per la gentilezza..
I difetti che ha fondamenalmente è che durante lo scroll la pagina nn scorre, ma va a balzi, e nn sai mai quanto ealmente si andato in su/giù...

Ho guardato il file xorg.conf, cn quello che mi hai postato: sono molto simili, ma c'è qualche leggera differenza (probabilmente dovuta al fatto che la sua scheda madre é SE, la mia no).
Un'ultima cosa; perdona l'ignoranza, ma cosa è una tablet wacom??

Il tablet Wacom è questa "roba", non ho capito perchè in molte installazioni carichi il suo driver anche se non presente, cosa sò è che pianta un pò casino..
Per il tuo caso specifico, visto cosa descrivi, la scheda video non viene riconosciuta per niente, quesa la prova:

non riconoscendola il server grafico lavora al "contagocce":
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
ma c'è pure parecchia altra roba all'inizio dell'output del comando, non so interpretarlo bene, apparentemente c'è un bel pò di roba che non viene riconosciuta, per farla andare ci saranno un pò di "smanettamenti", ma sembra possibile, in primo luogo visita questa pagina e cerca di individuare con esattezza il modello che hai sul tuo, da cosa vedo il modello più "somigliante" è il terzo partendo dal basso, una volta individuato vai qui e devi trovare la corrispondenza nella lista.
qui un forum tedesco con quel modello di scheda, ma su St. Google ci sono molte altre info, vedi se riesci a capirci qualcosa e riposta se necessario, qui comunque necessito l'aiuto di qualche buon anima che sappia molto di più di me su Tux, comunque non disperare, se hanno risolto loro ci riesci pure tu.

Stai usando il driver generico vesa.

Prima di tutto fatti un backup del file xorg.conf.
Prova con il driver opensouce di ubuntu, installa il pacchetto xserver-xorg-video-via poi con il comando:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
riconfigura il server X scegliendo il driver via e non il vesa, meglio da una sessione senza X avviato.
Riavvia.

ho provato a fare come mi hai suggerito, ma al riavvio, appena arriva schermata di login, mi da un errore di configurazione dell'xserver-xorg, dicendomi che nn è configurato, e come errore fatale mi da:" no screens found".
Suggerimenti??
In ogni caso grazie della disponibilità..

ok, sei su "schermo nero"
fai il login su quel "terminale" (é cosi che si chiama), quindi inserisci il tuo username e password, una volta fatto questo ridai il comando:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
fai tutta la prassi, quando ti fa configurare la scheda video vedi se compare la voce "via" o simile, se si la selezioni, una voce tipo "usare framebuffer" su "no", le altre domande lasci di default (se poi qualcosa fa scherzi lo vediamo poi), dovrebbe ripartire.

Ok, proviamo di nuovo da terminale ad installarli, se hai Dapper il comando é questo:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-driver-via
a partira della Edgy si chiama diversamente:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-via
Usa uno dei due, ma credo sia il secondo.
una volta fatto questo ridai questo comando:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Rifai come prima, vedi de sto benedetto "via" appare quando si esegue la configurazione.
Da cosa dice la specifica del pacchetto sembra il tuo:
This driver for the X.Org X server (see xserver-xorg for a further description)
provides support for VIA/S3 CLE266/KM400/K8M800/UniChrome cards, which are
frequently found in low-form-factor VIA motherboards, and in some laptops
La serie "K8M800" c'é..
NB: C'é un secondo pacchetto che pare sia in qualche maniera legato al primo, e cioé:
xserver-xorg-video-savage
con queste specifiche:
This package provides the driver for the S3/VIA Savage/ProSavage/Twister family
of chipsets
e qui parla di chipset, da cosa vedo sul tuo non lo ha visto nemmeno in foto.. prova ad installare pure lui:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-savage
male non gli fa di certo..

A dire la verità avevo già provato cn questi driver. purtroppo, come si può vedere dalla specifica del pacchetto:
This driver for the X.Org X server (see xserver-xorg for a further description)
provides support for VIA/S3 CLE266/KM400/K8M800/UniChrome cards, which are
frequently found in low-form-factor VIA motherboards, and in some laptops
è supporto si per le schede VIA, ma purtroppo solo per le UniChrome, mentre la mia è una DeltaChrome.
Anche cn questa soluzione all'avvio non parte il serverX, ed era stato per questo che avevo installato i driver Vesa, in quanto erano gli unici grazie al quale potevo lavorare tramite GUI.
